Hansa Expression Session
Pixel Project developed the software for the Hansa Expression Session Booth. The Booth’s setup included connections and feedback with Midi devices, DMX lighting and video feeds. Way ahead of its time – this booth let users create and control their own audio and visual production. After a brief registration process, guests could mix it up and make their tracks.
The hardware in the booth consisted of 3 mounted LCD screens (2 touch enabled), a Large Plasma TV, a midi mixer and scratch pad. There were 3 cameras inside the booth recording the audiovisual session. The left touch-screen contained the sound library with the audio loops. The right touch-screen displayed a visual effects library that controlled the visual effects displayed on the large Plasma TV. The middle screen displayed the visual feedback from the mixer and sound touch-screen, visually responding to what the various devices were doing and to give the interaction a tactile feel. The mixer allowed the user to control the tempo of the music, volume per channel and to drop in samples. This allowed the guest to create tracks with varying music styles from house and kwaito to faster tempo tracks. The beat affected the lighting in the booth triggering various light sequences on the DMX floor. The visual mix was displayed on the large screen in front of the user.
After the session, the user received their recorded Expression Session on DVD featuring the footage from the 3 cameras, their visual mix and of course, their music.
This was very unique project combining hardware, software, lighting camera recording and physical space all merging to create a unique experience for the users.
